Types of Tea: How It Started....

Types of Tea is a blog about tea to support my books series Types of Teas. I started this blog to compliment my book series to build a community, to engage and get to know my readers. This blog explore the various types of teas, their health benefits, origins, flavours and exciting tea recipes

In this first post I’ll talk about me, what inspired me to start writing and my first book Types of Tea: Black, Green, White, Pu-erh, Oolong, Yellow and Herbal Tea

I’ve always been an herbal tea enthusiast. The use of herbal tea or Bush tea is a huge part of the Guyanese culture, where one or more herbs were used at some point or another to treat ailments by grandparents. Growing up in Guyana I enjoyed many herbals teas including lemongrass, cascarilla, senna, sweetbroom among many others. For Guyanese, herbal remedy is always the first go to for any ailment, so that developed my love for herbal tea. As far back as I can remember, I thoroughly enjoyed foraging for herbal tea. This summer my favourite was Lime blossom which are found in most Victorian parks in and around London.

My research for herbal tea to try during the 2020 lockdown inspired the idea to write a book about tea. I noticed there was a high searches online for tea so that cemented my idea to proceed. I’ve always wanted to write a book but never had any inspiration until now. Not to mention needing something to keep me sane during such a difficult time which I must add was the perfect solution. Coupled with my skills as an educator/researcher for 15+ years preparing subjecting material in various areas, as a self-proclaimed natural herbalist and demand for this subject area, I decided to lend my expertise to this book and embarked on this exciting journey. Saddled with all my tools, I decided the first book in the series should look at main types of teas and herbal tea.

Lock down was a very difficult time for many and I recall many of my friends complaining about boredom but I can’t say it was the same for me as I was utterly indulged in learning and writing my first book.  It was very exciting and challenging, writing and learning all that needs to be done since I am a self-published author but it was exactly what the doctor ordered to keep me sane. I remembered waking up early to get back to my project and struggling to pull myself away to go to bed even at wee hours of the morning.

My first book Types of Tea: Black, Green, White, Yellow, Oolong, Puerh and Herbal delves into the six main types of tea and herbal tea. It also explores health benefits, flavour, origins, tea recipes aphrodisiac herbal tea, edible tea, scented tea, natural sweeteners etc.

Reading this book will provide an understanding of teas that are suitable for health and wellbeing or appropriate tea to order when you're dining out. Learn more about the health benefits of various tea; tea suitable for morning, afternoon or after a heavy meal, summer, spring, autumn or winter. Nutritionist will also find this book very useful as many teas discussed in this book can be part of a planned diet.

Becoming Healthier With Tea

The pandemic has caused concerns for health and safety; halting life as we know it. There is a rise in emotional eating and increased grazing which can have a big impact on our mood and anxiety levels. Maintaining a good diet with the help of tea is ever more important. Whether you just want to be healthier by learning about the best tea for weight loss or laxative tea or kava tea or passion flower tea types of tea is a good place to start.

Excess coffee consumption can lead to peaks and crashes in energy which can heighten anxiety in those susceptible. Swapping your coffee for green tea may help to alleviate caffeine heightened anxiety.

Green tea for example contains a compound called L-theanine slows the release of caffeine meaning you don’t experience such a peak and crash. L-theanine also stimulates the release of a neurotransmitter called GABA which helps you to feel calm and relaxed.

Alternatively, opt for herbal teas to limit caffeine if you are particularly caffeine sensitive. Read more about which herbal tea will suit your specific needs.

Types of Tea is available as either paperback or ebook on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Xii Xii, Lulu, Apple Books in 51 countries, Scribe, Google Play Books in 66 countries, Kobo, Tolino, e-Sentral, Casablanca del Libro etc.

I look forward to reading your thoughts, suggestions, feedback. In the next post I discuss book 2, Types of Herbal Tea.
